ASTM D1894 Coefficients of Friction Plastic Film Sheet Test Equipment

ASTM D1894 Fiction Fixture

Both the plastics and packaging industries rely on slip properties of plastic films to maintain the quality of their film products. International testing standard ASTM D1894 is commonly used to determine the static and kinetic coefficients (or slip properties) of plastic film sheets. The coefficient of friction is the ratio of force it takes to slide plastic film and sheeting over itself or another substance.

ASTM D1894

ASTM D1894 uses a stationary sled with a moving plane, or a moving sled with a stationary plane. A universal test machine equipped with a load cell is used to move a plate at a constant rate of 150 +/- 30 mm/min (0.5 +/- 0.1ft/min). Test speed should carefully controlled for this test.

Equipment required

TestResources Coefficient of Friction (COF) Test Machines are precise and best for testing at a constant rate of motion. Give one of our application engineers a call today for help with creating the best budget and testing plan according to ASTM D1894.
