ASTM E8 Tension Testing Equipment for Metallic Materials
Metallic materials are commonly quality tested using international testing standards such as ASTM E8. ASTM E8 requires tensile tests for strength and ductility of materials under uniaxial stresses. This standard covers tension testing of metallic materials in any form at room temperature. Resulting data provides statistics such as yield strength, yield point elongation, elongation, tensile strength, and reduction of area.
ASTM E8 Test Equipment
For ASTM E8, use a TestResources Electromechanical Universal Test Machine and zero the machine, inset the test sample into the chosen grip type, select or determine test mode of control (constant stress rate, constant crosshead travel speed or constant strain rate), set the test speed and start the test. There are many variables involved with this test including aspects around machine control. Gage lengths for most round specimens are required to be 4D for ASTM E8 and 5D for ASTM E8M. The gage length is the most significant difference between E8 and E8M test specimens.
